Subject matter : | Genealogy |
Content : | P.1-21 contain the in the title announced family tree of the princely family of Sambas. The origin of the original dynasty is not cleared up, its dependence on Johor only hinted silently. The new dynasty comes from the marriage of a prince from Brunei with a princess of Sukadana and absorbs the older dynasty by marriage. The series of princes is continued without mentioning a time until about mid-19th century. The interspersed historical notes have the same purpose, to describe the emergence of the main settlements in the kingdom of sambas.
After an empty space (3 lines) begins on p.21 a genealogy of princes, which are represented as descendants of the famous dynasty of Majapahit in Java; in it the relationship of kinship between these sultans and the princely families of Sambas, Mempawa and Riau is considered in great detail (the genealogy of the princes of Sambas differs here in significant respects from the first genealogy). Commentary and content of the text “Salasilah Raja-Raja Sambas” can be read in Hurgronje (1989: 237-239) and Overbeck “Malay Manuscripts”, in JMBRAS, vol. 4, p. 242. Cf. Schoem. V 26 and PNM (1992: 73). |
Further copies : | The text of the present edition is the same as that published by E. Netscher in the "Tijdschrift voor Indian Taal, Landen Volkenkunde", Batavia 1853, Dl. I, 1-41 with translation and notes; Batavia No. 198 (p.36) has the same title: Leiden No. 1754 (p.165), which deals with the history of the princes of Mempawa and Riau, contains a somewhat different editorial section of the second section of the present mss. |
